Babeng snores like her pops and sleeps with her eyes half-closed like her mama.
Turn your speakers on loud for the full effect. I laughed till my tummy hurt.

After 2 weeks with no bath but lots and lots of running around in parks, Babeng was starting to smell really gamey. So yesterday after her class, we took out all her toys from her toy box and used the box as her bath tub. Voila! Her own little blue tub!
We expected a little struggling but was pleasantly surprised at how well she behaved. Maybe it was the very nice shampoo Pima’s parents gave us to try, or maybe it was the nice warm water (she loves warm water!), but whatever it was, she’s easier to bathe than either George or Atti!
It also saves us RM20 to send her to the groomers.

I just think it’s hilarious how she looks in her little tub. We’re thinking of using the same method to bathe George and Atti next week. Wish us luck!

No, Babeng did not just keel over and die. This is one of the many positions she takes when sleeping on Stinky’s tummy/chest. At least this time she didn’t snore. Or did she? The 4 of us were sleeping on the sofa last Sunday afternoon. Only Atti chose to stay away and sun himself on the balcony
Pics totally unrelated to the post. These are the pics Denise took of Pima & Babeng’s playdate last week.

Yesterday was Babeng’s first day at school. No pics though, we were too busy taking it all in. We’ve never seen so many dogs in one place in our whole lives! There were 3 other pugs. We compared pugs. Trust us to be the only one to have a pug with a two-layer coat. The other owners were not covered in pug hairs as we were.

Babeng was really happy to see so many new potential friends. As we saw from her playdate with Pima, she has absolutely no fear when it comes to dogs bigger than her. She was however upset when a Yorkie tried to hump her face. Repeatedly. I would be too. Gross. Too bad she didn’t nip his balls.

I was asked to prove demonstrate that Babeng knew her name when it was called out. I could feel all the other owners who said their dogs didn’t know their names silently hoping for me to screw up and join their lowly ranks
….. I took a deep breath and said, “Babeng!”
She looked up at me and grinned. Phew. We Top Dog. ‘Nuff said.
We have homework. By next week we have to show that:
So please excuse the possible slacking off in posting. We’ll be practicing! Hahahhaa…
Sincerely,
The Kiasu One

Last Saturday I made some vegetable soup that included carrots as one of the ingredients. Having read that it was good to give your pug healthy treats like celery, carrots, etc., I gave Babeng a carrot stick. As you can see from the photo, she chewed it up a bit. I can’t say she’s crazy about carrots but at least she ate some!
This Sunday marks the first obedience class that we’re attending with Babeng. I have good vibes about this class. The pictures of the training area looks nice and the person I talked to seemed nice and efficient. She sent me 2 SMSes and called twice to remind me class starts on Sunday. My kind of organiser
.
We’re hoping that the class will teach us to be better pug people and Babeng to be better behaved. We’d also like to meet more nice dog owners whose dogs will want to play with our Babs. As it is, we only know Pima and her parents. More doggy friends for Babs will be awesome.
Can you tell that if I ever have children, I’ll be the neurotic parent who has the teacher’s number on speed dial? And suck up? Hahahaha…
After her playdate with Pima yesterday, I sent Babeng to our favourite petshop to get a bath and have her nails trimmed. Babeng was uncharacteristically tired in the evening and kept falling asleep everytime I stayed in one location more than a couple minutes. Then I got stuck to the computer reading stuff online so she went to sleep at my feet under the table. 30 minutes later Babeng must have been deep in dreamland when she suddenly gave a violent jerk and barked loudly twice, nearly killing me with shock in the process. Drip drip drip goes the spilt lemonade. On her part, Babs just looked at me with a ‘What the hey?’ expression and went back to sleep. Haha.

Love Part I
There have been times in the 2 months that she’s been with us that I have questioned my sanity in getting a dog when:
Then yesterday at the pet shop I was buying Babeng’s kibble and an armful of her favourite mint chewy bones when the owner said, ‘Hey you really love that pug of yours, eh?’
I was ready to give a jokey reply along the lines of, ‘It keeps her quiet!’ when it hit me: yes, I really do love the little troublemaker. So I said so
Love Part II
This morning I got news that another tenant had made complaints about people keeping pets (snitch! rot in hell!). I was pretty sure it wasn’t me (I can say that now but then I was a total wreck) ‘coz the kids are normally quiet but after a couple minutes contemplating life without the awful buggers, I started crying in the middle of all the unpacked boxes.
Dang, I love my stinky ingrates.
I took Babeng out for her first ever playdate today. We went to Taman TAR to meet my favourite wienerdoodle in the world….. Pima!
The morning didn’t start too well. First Babs refused to potty after brekkie, then she suddenly decided she was afraid of The World Outside the Apartment. Smuggling her to the carpark was nerve-racking. She wriggled the whole damned time. Then when we finally got there, I remembered the box of cupcakes meant for the humans… it was still on the kitchen counter. Back to the apartment with Miss Wriggling and the whole smuggle-dog-in-and-out replayed itself. I have grey hairs to show for it.

Babeng tried to steal Pima’s chewy bone. Tsk tsk.
After a tense couple of minutes where Babeng hid behind the car tyres and Pima looking quizzical, the two hit it off and had a grand old time chasing each other in the huge yard. It was the first time Babs felt grass in her whole life… it was hilarious watching her investigate leaves and Pima’s poop. There were a couple incidents of Babs accidentally jumping on Zona the cat and getting reprimanded with a claw but I thought it was good for her. Maybe she’ll learn how to behave around George and Atticus better
.

Wrestling in the house.
I think the two dogs enjoyed themselves tremendously. The humans did too. Pima’s 4-5 times Babeng’s size but she was so gentle with the little tearaway. Babeng got sat on a couple times but it was her fault for being at the wrong place at the wrong time!

Hahahaha…Babeng got sat on!
Thanks again to Pima’s parents for having us, and Denise too for taking loads of pics. Next time we’ll bring brownies!
I sometimes wonder if George and Atti think that their lives were happier before Babeng joined the family. They had the run of the apartment and there was never a risk of bumping into a deranged butt-sniffer-face-licker that liked to chase or lunge at you. Sometimes I fancy that they look accusingly at me before disdainfully stalking off, pointedly ignoring any attempts on my part or Stinky’s to make things up to them.
There have been some nice changes to the cats’ behaviour after Babeng. They’re more affectionate when they see that she’s safely in her enclosure. It used to be that we had to use force to get George to sit next to us. Now he plops his fat self on our laps! Haha. Atti pula has morphed into Mr. Needy and asks to be carried around. Every cloud has a silver lining I suppose ….
The day I see the three of them happily, peacefully playing together, I’m gonna send a hundred bucks to the SPCA. That day can’t happen soon enough.

I guess we spoke too soon. Babeng is in trouble for deeply distressing Atti to the point of making him cry. She lunged at him repeatedly until he cowered into a corner and started crying. No amount of yelling made her stop, I had to forcibly tug her leash. Although she wasn’t being mean and was just goofing off, I’m still upset and so is Atti. Atti has always been the sweetest of all our kids. I can count on one hand the number of times he’s been naughty enough to warrant a scold & spanking. George and Babeng on the other hand, get yelled at every hour.
I guess it’s back to square one.

There’s been a minor breakthrough in Babeng’s and the boys’ relationship. We held Atti down a couple nights ago next to Babs and the brave darling didn’t cry when Bab’s started licking his face all over. Atti still runs away when Babeng heads full steam towards him, but we hope think things are not as harrowing as they were before.
George is a different story. Then again Georgie has always marched to the beat of his own fucked up drum.

All pug manuals mention how hard it is to trim pug nails. Babeng desperately needs a pedicure soon. My feet are torn up from her jumping on them and scratching them with her super-strong claws.

Here’s Babeng a minute before she fell with a thunk on my chest, sound asleep. Takes after her pop, she does. Falls asleep at very odd times.
