Most of Babeng’s toys have tassled ends made out of coarse string. She likes to pull the string out one by one and eat it. Stinky and I are forever finding these string in her poop that we pick up but this morning’s poop was something special.
As usual, 30 minutes after brekkie, we put Babeng back in her enclosure for a poop break. She immediately started what we called her Poop Dance and went into Poop Position a few seconds afterwards. A nice big one came out but Babeng maintained her posture. WTF, we wondered. Meneran ke anjing ni?
Suddenly she started twirling as fast as can be and jumping up and down. That’s when we found out what the hell it was that bothered her: a 2 inch turd hanging on a string that was still half in her butt. Of course we started screaming and yelling at her to stop but she went faster and faster and stepped on all the nice, fresh, intact poop on her litter tray. At last Stinky caught hold of her while I had to pull out the Poop-on-a-String out of her butt.
Needless to say we were late for work this morning.

I think I have given up on Babeng learning the shake hands trick by Sunday. Although she did raise her paw a few times, my (her?) success rate is only 5%. Imagine that. I am desolate that she can’t kick Shamus’ (another pug in her class) ass (he can shake hands). Oh well, at least Babeng can run faster than him
However Babeng is a real whiz on athletic stuff. She mastered the twirling around trick in 5 minutes and now we’re getting her to jump over our knees (when we’re sitting on the ground) and to crawl under them. The little scamp will do anything for a treat.
Except shake hands
********
To our horror, Babeng has very recently learned that she can jump on and off the sofas without too much effort. My heart stops every time she makes a flying leap – I’ve read too many stories of other pugs doing the same and hurting themselves. Bad enough for emergency trips to vets and surgeries even. Sigh. George and Atti don’t help much by gracefully jumping here, there and everywhere whenever Babeng’s around. This morning I woke up and found Atti on top of the bookshelf. Scared the bejeezus outta me.

The whole family of 2 humans, 2 cats and 1 dog were on the sofa watching tv. I leaned over to blow a raspberry on Stinky’s tummy for saying something funny. Next thing we knew, Babeng stood up and pressed her snout several times against Stinky’s tummy, each time harder than the previous attempt. The darling wanted to blow raspberries too!
Stinky and I almost died of cuteness.
The cats were less than impressed.

There’s a Pekingese in Babeng’s class, let’s call her Scobby. No, I didn’t misspell Scooby, her owners really did name her Scobby. Anyway.
Scobby is a nice, friendly dog who’s one of my favourites at the school. There’s a mischievous gleam in her eye everytime she humilates her owner once again. You see, Scobby is, how shall we put it, easily distracted.

Everytime we do heel exercises or recall tests*, Scobby will invariably flop down or trot off in the opposite direction. Her poor owner will be tugging at her leash or yelling, ‘Scobby! Scobby!’ while we, the other owners whose dogs have performed ok, laugh discreetly behind our plastic doggy poop bags. The dog trainer will then ask Scobby’s owner if he’d done his homework and practiced with Scobby to which the poor guy replies, “She did perfectly fine at home!”

It must be so hard for the poor dude. We’re sure he really does what he says, it’s just that Scobby gets distracted by the presence of his doggy friends. We’re a bunch of meanies for laughing but if you heard his embarrassed ‘Scobby! Scobby!’, 10 bucks says you’d be laughing too
.
The name doesn’t help much either

*recall tests are when you hide yourself from the dog and call her name along with the ‘Come!’ command.

Babeng used to go out only once a week which was for her basic dog obedience class on Sunday. It was so tedious and scary smuggling her in and out of our apartment that on most days we’d usually just exercise her indoors. Her being a pug helped.
However since she rarely went out, that meant she would go nuts when she did. Not the best frame of mind to be in when you’re supposed to be learning doggy commands (and stay Top Dog)!

So we decided to take her out more often. Last weekend, we brought her to see Pima. They had a blast. Babeng fell into the pool but Pima fished her out.

They ran around, tiring themselves out. We gave Pima a chewy bone before we left. Babeng stole it out of her mouth! Good thing Pima was a lady. She just waited for us to give it back to her

So how did Babeng do in school yesterday? Let me just say she did her parents proud (and retained Top Dog title)
